How do you gauge two decades in music? By the time he was 20, Mozart had written nine operas; in the past 20 years, Totó has recorded four albums. For quantity, Wolfgang wins, but Totó has a few aces to play. The songs on this album reach back beyond the two decades she has been recording, back through her 30-odd years as a professional singer, through her youth and beyond, to the four generations of her family who were musicians, singers and dancers before her. Geographically, they cover the Caribbean coast of Colombia, where Totó was born and raised, but their roots stretch to Europe and Africa.
